The first recorded bank robbery in the USA. ๐Ÿฆ

The earliest recorded bank robbery ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ in the United States took place in 1798 in Philadelphia, in the Bank of Pennsylvania at Carpenterโ€™s Hall.

Patrick Lyon, a young blacksmith was contracted by a man named Samuel Robinson to make locks for the bankโ€™s new location.
With him was Isaac Davis, who turned out to be one of Robinsonโ€™s conspirators.

After completing the work, Lyon and his apprentice fled the city to escape the Yellow Fever epidemic ๐Ÿ˜ท , whilst Robinson went on to rob the bank and got away with $162,821๐Ÿ’ฐ.

When the blacksmith, Lyon, learned that he was a suspect in the robbery, he returned to Philadelphia to clear his name, but was arrested & jailed๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ.

After spending three months in jail, his name was finally cleared when Davis deposited his stolen money ๐Ÿ’ต ๐Ÿ’ต in the same bank he had robbed. Exactly $162,821.

When questioned by police ๐Ÿ‘ฎ about his newfound wealth ๐Ÿ’ต , he caved and confessed to the robbery. ๐Ÿ“ฃ

The blacksmith, Lyon was eventually released from prison and wrote a book ๐Ÿ“–.ย  Believe it or not, this was the title of the book….โ€The Narrative of Patrick Lyon: who Suffered Three Months Severe Imprisonment on Merely a Vague Suspicion of Being Concerned in the Robbery of the Bank of Pennsylvania, with his Remarks Thereonโ€.
