As is our habit on this forum, we like to recognize residents for their achievements.  This recognition comes a bit late, as it happened during L4 lockdown.

Local resident Saaleha Idrees Bamjee, won this years Ingrid Jonker Prize for English Poetry 📚 for her beautiful collection, Zikr.

The prize, one of South Africa’s most prestigious literary awards, is alternately awarded on an annual basis to a debut volume of poetry in Afrikaans or English. This year’s award is for volumes published in English in 2018 and 2019.

Saaleha went up against some tough competition, with eleven entries received, shortlisted to four and came out on top. Congratulation Saaleha. You make the south proud.
